What are uterine fibroids symptoms?

Uterine fibroids are noncancerous tumors that grow in the uterus, which range in size from a grape to a cantaloupe. Uterine fibroids affect approximately 20-40% of women over the age of thirty-five. African American women are three times more likely to develop fibroids.

Permanent relief from fibroids in the uterus with Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE)

Uterine fibroid embolization is a minimally-invasive, non-surgical treatment for fibroids that can be performed at our Jacksonville fibroid center. A UFE blocks blood supply to the fibroid tumor, making it shrink. During the procedure, the fibroid specialist uses a catheter, which is a thin tube that is inserted through a blood vessel in the leg and guided by X-ray images to those blood vessels that feed the fibroids of the uterus. Once blood flow is blocked, the fibroid starts to shrink.
